10 ERGO Tips To Do At Your Desk & Avoid Fatigue

Prolonged Sitting & use of a computer keyboard and/or mouse can lead to frequent muscle aches and nerve pain unless a few guidelines are followed. Follow these quick and easy Office ergonomics tips to decrease fatigue, discomfort and physical stress while also increasing comfort and productivity while working.

  • Are you on the phone for more than two hours per day? Try using a headset to avoid cradling your phone and free both of your hands.

  • Instead of sitting up straight, lean back in your chair & adjust in your Monitor arms to dramatically increase long-term comfort through the upper and lower back.

  • Do you find yourself shrugging your shoulders to reach your keyboard? Install a keyboard tray to improve typing posture and long-term comfort.

  • Do you suffer from "laptop hunch?" Our Laptop holders position the screen at a comfortable height, ensuring the best — and most ergonomic — way to work on a laptop.

  • Protect your eyes and prevent digital eye strain by following the 20-20-20 rule.

  • Humanscale's M/Flex monitor arm allows users to effortlessly adjust their screen(s) to their optimal ergonomic position.

5 STEPS TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE WORKPLACE

Creating a more sustainable office doesn’t have to be complicated.
Here are five simple steps to get started:

Recycle

sustainability-_0003_recycle

Recycling is essential to minimizing the huge negative impact waste has on our planet. Start by supplying your office with bins for plastic, paper, glass and cardboard waste. For other materials like empty toner cartridges, check if the supplier offers a recycling program.

Reduce

sustainability-_0002_reduce

As Niels Diffrient said, “No amount of recycling will equal using less in the first place.” Before you click “print,” ask yourself if the document could be easily read on your computer, tablet or phone. If it’s absolutely necessary to print, print double-sided. Another easy way to reduce waste is to cut down on plastic material in the kitchen. Instead of disposable cups, plates, and cutlery, use permanent kitchenware instead.

Unplug

sustainability-_0001_unplug

How many people leave their computers on overnight? Before the workday is over, turn off all lights and encourage colleagues to turn off their computers. You can even go a step further and unplug any phone chargers and other electrical devices before you leave the office. Even if they are turned off, many appliances can still use power if left plugged into outlets.

Go Green

Plants absorb airborne pollutants and release more oxygen into the air – making employees happier and healthier. Spider plants, peace lilies, and snake plants are beautiful, low-maintenance options for the office. Check out Thrive Global’s blog for inspiration on how to create a beautiful, healthy workplace that connects with nature!

Upgrade

sustainability-_0000_upgrade

Upgrading to more energy-efficient office appliances will pay off over time. A good place to start is to cut down on overhead lighting by adding task lights to workstations. Overhead fluorescent lighting is notorious for excessive energy consumption. Task lights use significantly less energy and can contribute to yearly energy savings.

We hope these tips help you create a more environmentally friendly workplace. If you have any other ideas, we would love to hear them below!
